The Coca Cola Commercial On Labels

I watched this ad from Coca Cola and was struck yet again by labels. How we create them and how we allow them to shape what we see. It was powerful in the middle east and I think it's powerful here.

I got teary eyed at the end. Because I think that the unveiling of how we create our vision of people in our heads is life changing. Don't you think? We make up our minds by such little info. You probably have an idea of me right now based on what you read alone. We all do this.

But it is so important to shed that. So important to not inject prejudices, society norms and all of the other input that we receive (verbal or otherwise).  And it starts with seeing it. With understanding that it is happening and as you go on, adjusting your thinking. I feel that these men will probably think twice when formulating their description of a person that's done a TED talk or a rocker.Labels are for filing. Labels are for clothing. Labels are not for people. - Martina Navratilova

The little change of not making assumptions of what someone should look like by how they sound or what they do will hopefully roll up to a big change of ending the prejudices that threaten to tear us apart.
