The Docs Are In...Orlando!
Are you covered yet? Do you live in Florida? Orlando, maybe? I wanted to give you a heads up that Doctors for America will be in Orlando tomorrow. This will be the second stop on their "Coverage is Good Medicine" tour across Florida. They are raising awareness for the new health benefits available during the final month of open enrollment.
I love that doctors are taking part in helping their patients get covered. If you've never heard of Doctors for America, here's what makes them cool:
Doctors for America is a nationwide grassroots movement of physicians who are leading the way in communities across the country to ensure access to affordable, high quality health care. Doctors remain the most trusted sources of information on health coverage. That’s why physicians are hitting the streets, talking to the community and educating people about the benefits available under the new health law. From coast-to-coast our doctors are delivering one message: coverage is good medicine.
The tour will kick off tomorrow morning in Tampa where they will have an enrollment fair with Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Representatives Betty Reed and Janet Cruz. They will then head on over to the City Beautiful for an enrollment event with City Commissioner Samuel Ings and State Representatives Bruce Antone, Joe Saunders and Victor Torres. Here's the info in case you want to meet me there:
Saturday, Feb. 22nd -- Enrollment Fair 2-4 p.m. Press conference 2:30-3 p.m. Smith Community Center 1723 Bruton Blvd, Orlando, FL 32805
The tour will continue on March 1st on to Jacksonville for an enrollment fair there with Representative Mia Jones and Dr. Vanessa Cullins of Planned Parenthood.
For those Rattlers out there, this tour will conclude in Tallahassee on March 5th at the enrollment fair on the FAMU campus with Mayor John Marks and Representative Alan Williams.
Not only am I digging the hashtag (#DocsAreIn) but I am digging the vibe, the bus and the enthusiasm of this organization as they try and get more Floridians covered. I'm happy to be joining them and will be there Tweeting my heart as the Orlando Organizer for MomsRising (have you signed up yet?).
I told you guys about my story. I'd love to hear yours. And if you don't have one yet, guess what? We can fix that tomorrow!
