Camp Mamitiki: Yummyfun With Breyers

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Breyers. I attended a Breyers Yummy Fun Ice Cream Workshop and received a travel stipend, free zoo admission, and a promotional item as a thank you for participating. Camp Mamitiki is going well. And by well I mean I'm almost out of things to do and will soon resort to heading to the theme parks. But that is not to say we haven't done some awesometastic things so far this summer. For those of you that aren't in the "know" Camp Mamitiki is my way of not having to pay for school 2 days a week spending extra quality time with my favorite girl.

But seriously, I've always loved summers and realize that I want to start doing special family activities that we can turn into traditions with the passing of time. And hopefully some of those special moments will turn into delicious moments throughout the year.

I'll have to say that the bestest adventure thus far was the surprise trip to the zoo we took a couple of weeks ago. Have you tried surprising a 3-year old? Because they love surprises but they ask you what that surprise is at least 320 times before you tell them. Guess I'm glad I waited to tell her we were going somewhere AFTER I got her dressed.

I totally wish I had someone else in the car with me taking pictures or video of her expression when we turned into the Central Florida Zoo. It's got lifesized animal statues up front so that automatically gave it away. I believe her words, right after wow, were this is awesome! And awesome it was.

The surprise surprise was that we were there not only to visit the zoo AND share in the birthday celebration of the 2 baby rhinos. Oh no siree! We were also there to attend a Breyers® Yummyfun workshop. Clare Crespo, the very same person that wrote Hey There, Cupcake! and The Secret Life of Food, was on hand to show us some pretty cool ice cream recipes.

But it was about more than ice cream (though I admit, that's pretty darn good already). The workshop was designed to show parents and children how easy (and fun) family time in the kitchen can be. And fun we had! We got to pick from two recipes: Mint Chocolate Chimps and Patriotic Posey. We chose the chimp.

Shortly after the chimp was consumed, we got a nice Florida shower to cool us off. I loved it. While we waited for the rain to pass we watched some toucans that were close by and generally took in our surroundings. Afterward we went exploring and though there were people all around, we were in our own bubble. Talking, exploring, learning and most importantly, enjoying one another. It was the perfect afternoon with the perfect girl.

Talking to Clare and hearing all of the other people at the workshop reinforced the importance of what I was doing. Creating delicious moments with the frog princess that she won't soon forget. And if we can do that while enjoying some Breyers® ice cream well, that's almost too much perfection for one summer.

How do you create delicious moments with your family?

Oh and if you want to try your hand at your very own Mint Chocolate Chimps, here's the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • One scoop (1/2 cup) of Breyers Blasts!® Girl Scout Cookies® Thin Mints® Ice Cream
  • 2 Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies
  • 2 small round candies
  • Red and black decorating icing

Instructions:

  • Cut one of the Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies in half
  • Using the red decorating icing, squeeze a mouth on the lower half of the other cookie
  • Using the black decorating icing, squeeze two black nostrils on the top half of the same cookie
  • Scoop Breyers Blasts!® Girl Scout Cookies® Thin Mints® Ice Cream on dish
  • Place remaining ice cream to overlap the lower half of bottom scoop
  • Place cookie halves on top sides of ice cream as ears
  • Place whole cookie on lower half of ice cream
  • Place two small round candies above cookie mouth
  • Add two dots of black decorating icing on eyes
  • Serve immediately or pop in freezer until ready to serve

FYI, now through September 23, families nationwide (that'd be YOU!) are encouraged to submit their delicious moments – a sundae creation, favorite flavor or even a fun family photo – to the Breyers Facebook page. One lucky winner will be showcased within the Winner’s Gallery each week and will receive exciting prizes, such as a tablet and a year’s supply of Breyers®.
